We stayed at the Grand Hotel Central a luxury family hotel in Barcelona with kids in April 2022 as part of our Easter travels around Spain. We stayed with our three children, tween girls aged 8 and 9 years and our baby boy aged 10 months. Here is my full review!
Family friendly accommodation in Barcelona
Grand Hotel Central is located on the edge of the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, near Las Ramblas. It is a luxury, boutique hotel and part of the Small Luxury Hotels Collection. Just 15 minutes from Barcelona airport, Grand Hotel Central is a great base for your city break in Barcelona with kids.
The hotel fits perfectly in the gothic quarter with its dark and rich interiors with ornate decorations.
Grand Central Hotel has a restaurant, breakfast room and sky bar with a heated rooftop infinity pool. There is also a spa and gym available to use. Grand Centra Hotel has maximised the limited space available in this part of Barcelona and offer so many facilities that would wouldn’t expect in a city hotel. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a luxury family hotel in Barcelona.

While there is no kids club at the hotel we didn’t find this was an issue at all.
Firstly, that’s not the kind of holiday this was. You are generally so busy on a city break you don’t need activities for the kids. Actually what you need more is somewhere for the kids to unwind after a busy day exploring. The pool offers that downtime and respite from the business of the city.
Secondly, there are lots of games available in the hotel lobby. On our final day we were all quite tired from our 9 day whirlwind tour of Spain and it was raining. We had a lovely slow start to the day, savoured our breakfast and our girls took themselves off to play chess in the comfy seats of the hotel lobby. Later in the day, the baby actually made a little friends with a little German girl in the hotel lobby, they played with the dominos together – it was so sweet!
Hotel with family rooms in Barcelona
We booked interconnecting rooms at Grand Hotel Central. This actually comprised of two rooms that shared an entrance hall. One of our rooms was a Standard room and one was a Superior. Both rooms were very small and it was a challenge to fit the cot in the room with us. The superior had a double aspect window but it overlooks other buildings. This is difficult to avoid in the built up area of the city. The Standard room only had one small window and was quite a dark room.
If there is one available I would recommend choosing a Suite room at Grand Hotel Central. These have MUCH more space for families but there wasn’t one available at the time I booked.

Food and Drink at Grand Hotel Central Barcelona
We stayed on a Bed and Breakfast basis at Grand Hotel Central Barcelona. The breakfast room is on the lower ground floor of the hotel and is buffet style. There are excellent hot and cold food options and a range of comfortable seating arrangements.
The SkyBar is a lovely rooftop bar overlooking the city. We had a couple of days of rain when we were in Barcelona so we didn’t get to use this space as much as we had wanted to but on our first evening it was a stunning spot to look at the city and sip our welcome drink. This is also where the rooftop pool is so you could enjoy a drink at the bar while keeping an eye on the kids swimming. Heaven!

Bistro Helena is the restaurant at Grand Hotel Central Barcelona. We didn’t eat there but it has an excellent reputation in the city. Pre-booking is advisable.
